"As parents of a son graduating high-school, we didn't know the first thing about Flight School. We couldn't be happier with our son's experience in the Fast Track Program at US Flight Co. The process was seamless, the instructors were excellent, and he was able to complete his training in a year without sacrificing quality. At 19 years old, he is now a CFII at US Flight Co. A proud moment for our family. Highly recommend!"

Our Story

From Mechanic to Dream Builder

I spent years fixing aircraft. Then I realized the real thing that was broken was the system crushing student pilots' dreams.

Back in 2015, I started working in aviation as an A&P mechanic after finishing mechanic school. Got my private pilot license in 2016. Worked my way through Duncan Aviation, Oracle Aviation, then Winterset Aviation, and eventually bought that business.

I loved aviation. But there was something I kept seeing that made me sick...

80% of people who start flight training never get their license.

Not because they couldn't do it. But because the system was designed to fail them.

And Des Moines was the opportunity hiding in plain sight: there was literally no commercial flight school in the area.

The local flying club didn't even answer the phone. The few instructors around were part-time, treated it like a side hustle, and had terrible availability.

Your options if you wanted to become a professional pilot?

  • Train with part-time instructors who barely returned calls, constantly canceled, and disappeared the moment they got an airline job
  • Go to one of those massive out-of-state "pilot mills" with horror stories all over the internet, known for rushing students through, leaving them unprepared, and treating them like cattle
  • Or spend 4+ years and hundreds of thousands of dollars on a college aviation program

Every option sucked. And 8 out of 10 people were giving up before ever finishing.

That's when I decided to test something different.

In 2019, I launched US Flight Co with one aircraft and a rundown shared office. The floor was filthy, cords running everywhere, and there was this little Christmas tree on a shelf that stayed up all year (I still laugh about that).

I wasn't sure if it would work. But within 2-3 months, we had full classes of 8 students and leads pouring in.

People were desperate for this. They wanted a career change, but didn't want to waste 4 years in college or get chewed up by a pilot mill.

The biggest challenge? Financing. Most people couldn't pay $95K cash. We partnered with lenders, but they kept failing. So I did something crazy: I started our own financing company, US Flight Finance, so we could fund students ourselves.

Why? Because I actually believe in them.

Today, we've trained hundreds of students. We've got guys like Sam Leslie flying for Republic Airways, Johnny Martin flying professionally in Ohio, and Seth Thomas flying Caravans in Alaska. We operate out of Signature Aviation's stunning $12M+ new facility with our own dedicated space, a fleet of modern aircraft, and full-time instructors who are invested in your success.

And our students? Over 90% complete their training, when 80% of student pilots nationwide quit before ever finishing.

I built the school I wish existed back when I was starting out. No games. No side hustles. No pilot mills.

Just a real shot at your dream career.

Your Questions Answered

Everything you need to know about the Fast Track Airline Program

You don't need $95,000 upfront. You have three options: (1) Pay in thirds over the course of training. (2) Use our in-house financing with a $10,000 down payment for qualified applicants. (3) Secure your own financing through your bank and pay us in installments. The question isn't whether you can afford this. It's whether you can afford to spend another decade in your current career when you could be earning $200k+ as an airline captain.

We maintain a 90%+ completion rate because you get a dedicated instructor who actually knows you, not rotating instructors who barely remember your name. If life happens and you need to pause? You get 100% of your unused funds back. Your logbook transfers anywhere. Zero penalty. Zero pressure. You only pay for the training you actually use, and you can discontinue at any time. We succeed when you succeed, not when we take your money upfront.

At larger schools, you're another face in a class of 30, rotating through instructors every few weeks who have zero stake in your success. Here, you get a dedicated instructor who knows your strengths, your challenges, and your goals. Our students tell us they chose us because Mitchell (one of our grads) said it best: "They actually listened to me." You save $29,000 compared to the largest national academy, which charges $123,995 for the same certifications, AND you get personal attention. You're not a number here. You're a future airline pilot we're invested in seeing succeed.

Fast Track Math: 9-12 months to finish → Work as instructor or another entry-level pilot job for 1-2 years (earning $40-50k while building hours) → Regional airline at 1,500 hours (starting at $80k+) → Major airline captain ($200k+). Total timeline: 3-4 years from zero to six figures. Compare that to another 4-year degree that leaves you with debt and a $45k job. Our youngest graduate is a CFII at 19 years old, already earning and building toward the airlines.

Yes, you can. We've had several students complete the program while working full-time. Abby finished on time with a full-time job, a family, and two kids. That said, to finish in 9-12 months, we recommend part-time work. Full-time jobs will extend your timeline, but we'll work with your schedule. Fast Track requires 5-7 flight lessons per week plus ground school and study time. The real question: Is staying in your current job another year or two worth delaying a $200k/year airline career?

Boeing's 2025 outlook projects the industry needs 660,000 new pilots by 2044, with 42,000 airline pilots retiring in the next 15 years. Even when "hiring slows," airlines are still hiring. The key is timing: finish your training before the next hiring surge. Regional airlines continue to hire, and we have several established pathways to regional carriers. We've already placed graduates at airlines. The pilots who train now will be positioned when the next wave hits. Airlines always need pilots. The question is whether you'll be ready when opportunity knocks.

Airlines hire from age 23 to 65. That's a 42-year career window. We've trained career changers in their 40s and 50s. If you're 35 and thinking "I'm too old," you're giving up a potential 30-year, $6 million+ career because of a limiting belief. If you're 50 and can pass a medical, you've still got 15 years of six-figure airline income ahead. And that's just airlines. The age 65 mandatory retirement only applies to commercial airlines. Corporate aviation, NetJets, and charter operators have no age limit. You can fly well into your 70s if you stay medically qualified. The only "too late" is when you decide it is.

We don't just help. We've hired many of our Fast Track graduates to instruct with us after completion. While we can't guarantee employment, many grads build their 1,500 hours with us while earning $40-50k/year. You're already familiar with our aircraft, our airspace, our systems. It's the fastest path to career-ready hours, and you're getting paid while doing it. Other schools graduate you and say "good luck." We graduate you with a real opportunity to keep flying with us.

"Us Flight Co is a top flight school in Des Moines. I have been pursuing my private pilots license while finishing my senior year of high school. Because of navigating high school classes I was matched one on one with an instructor. This has been a great match and I appreciate the one on one learning I am receiving. US Flight CO's fleet of aircraft is diverse and expanding. As a student you have plenty of hours for flying and ground instruction. There is also flexibility to work with your school classes or employment hours."

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Fast Track program

What makes the Fast Track program different from self-paced training?

Our Fast Track program is structured as a full-time, immersive experience with guaranteed instructor availability and priority aircraft scheduling. You'll progress through a proven curriculum designed to take you from zero to career-ready in 9-12 months, compared to 18-24+ months with traditional part-time training.

Do I need any flight experience to start?

No! This program is designed for complete beginners. We take you from zero flight hours through all the ratings you need to become a commercial pilot and flight instructor. Many of our most successful graduates started with no aviation experience.

Why train in Des Moines at KDSM?

Des Moines International is a Class C airport, so from your very first lesson you'll talk to real approach and tower controllers and share the field with airline traffic, building professional radio and airspace skills many pilots never develop in training. At the same time, KDSM sees a fraction of the congestion of a major hub, so your paid flight time is spent flying instead of waiting to take off. Add genuine four-season Midwest weather for real instrument experience and a low cost of living for relocating students, and it's one of the best training environments in the country.

What certificates and ratings will I earn?

You'll earn: Private Pilot Certificate (Single-Engine), Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Certificate (Single & Multi-Engine), Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI). This is everything you need to start instructing and building hours toward the airlines' 1,500-hour requirement.

Is financing available?

Yes! We offer multiple financing options including US Flight Finance (our own in-house lender, with $10,000 down and 5-year terms starting at 10% APR), partner lenders like AOPA Pilot Finance, and HELOC options through our local bank partners. Our admissions team will help you find the best financing solution for your situation.

What happens after I complete the program?

Upon completion, many graduates work as flight instructors at our school or other flight schools to build the required 1,500 hours for airline hiring, and we prioritize our own graduates for instructor positions. Full-time instructing can build you to 1,500 hours in as little as 18-24 months. Employment and airline hiring are never guaranteed and depend on your performance and industry hiring conditions.

Can I work while in the Fast Track program?

The Fast Track program is designed as a full-time commitment (40+ hours/week including flight training, ground school, and self-study). While some students work part-time, we strongly recommend treating this as a full-time investment in your career for the best results and fastest completion.
