Discovery Flight

Description:

See what flying is all about. This discovery flight includes a briefing with a Certified Flight Instructor and a short flight where you are able to get hands on experience flying. During the briefing we will discuss your goals and what it takes to become a pilot. This is the starting point for all aviators.

Requirements to Enroll:

There are no special requirements to take a discovery flight.

Private Pilot License

Description:

This license enables you to fly under VFR flight rules (Visual Flight Rules) in day or night conditions. This license enables you to fly for fun or travel and take passengers. This flight training program focuses on the basics of flight. You must accumulate at least 40 hours of flight time. Half of this time is spent with a flight instructor, and the other half is spent flying solo. This license is the first for all pilots and is required to enroll in the following programs.

Requirements to Enroll:

  • Be at least 16 years old to fly solo.
  • Be at least 17 years old to receive your private pilot certificate.
  • Read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Obtain at least a third-class medical certificate.
  • Student Pilot Certificate

Instrument Rating

Description:

This rating is an add-on for your private pilot’s license. It enables you to fly in IFR flight rules (Instrument flight rules) during day or night. This rating is focused around navigating and communicating while flying in poor weather conditions. If your desire is to fly professionally this rating is required. Many aviators flying for pleasure also obtain this license to become more capable, and to increase safety.

Requirements to Enroll:

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate or be enrolled in the private pilot program and meet the private pilot requirements.

Commercial Pilot License

Description:

This license allows you to enter the world of being paid to fly. It builds on what you have learned so far by adding commercial pilot operations. This license requires 250 hours total flight time. In addition you will learn safety protocol and special maneuvers to help hone your pilot skills. When completed you are able to obtain entry level pilot jobs (skydiving pilot, aerial survey pilot, pipeline inspection, etc)

Requirements to Enroll:

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate and an instrument rating. 

Certified Flight Instructor

Description:

This rating allows you to teach others to fly. This is a great way to build time and is used by most pilots to log the time required to become an airline pilot. This license focuses around the art of teaching others. You will create a curriculum for students, and do a lot of flying from the co-pilot’s seat (to simulate an instructor environment). Once completed you will be able to obtain a CFI job at flight schools across the nation.

  • Hold at least a commercial pilot certificate.
